A New Chapter in the Garden City

Established in 1998, we have proudly served Christchurch for over 25 years. Our success has always been embedded in our commitment to quality, creative excellence, and providing a diverse collection of products to ensure there is truly something beautiful for everyone.

2025 marked an exciting change of hands for Garden City Florist. This transition brings a vibrant new chapter and a refreshed look, but the core values and pride we take in our craft remain unchanged. We are committed to continuing to service our Christchurch community for many more years to come.

We are passionate about sustainability. This dedication is reflected in our choice of materials, including our 100% natural and biodegradable floral foam made from wool and basalt, eco wrap and recyclable boxes. We strive to make our beautiful craft kinder to the planet, minimising waste by ensuring we offer sizes suitable for all stem lengths so nothing gets left behind.

Meet the Team

Karla: Floral Artist & Designer

Creativity has been a lifelong focus for Karla, beginning with a ten-year career as a freelance graphic artist. This foundation in design, colour theory, and visual communication is seamlessly integrated into her floral work today. Later in life, after her five children were grown, Karla trained as a florist and began a diploma in photography, blending her love for design, nature, and storytelling.

She is especially drawn to lush foliage, rich textures, and finding those small, unexpected details that give an arrangement its signature touch. When not creating beautiful blooms or tending to her own large garden full of life and inspiration, Karla is a talented musician, playing bass and learning the harp. When she's not surrounded by flowers or music, you'll find her exploring the quieter, lesser-known corners of Aotearoa with her partner in their campervan, always seeking life and inspiration from the natural world.

Michael: Owner & Visionary

From humble roots, Michael's connection to Garden City Florist began seven years ago when he began assisting with deliveries during the busiest times of the year. After seeing the joy flowers brought to local customers year after year, when the opportunity presented itself, he couldn't resist the opportunity to become the new owner of Garden City Florist.

Michael is thrilled to continue this beautiful legacy of exceptional service and quality for the Christchurch community, ensuring every arrangement delivered maintains that magical moment of surprise and appreciation.

Dana: Marketing & Events Lead

With a background in event planning, hospitality, and kitchen design, Dana leads Marketing and Events, bringing a modern and boutique vibe to the brand. She thrives on turning great ideas into playful, unforgettable experiences.

Self-taught in social media and design platforms, Dana seamlessly blends her professional experience with creative enthusiasm, whether she’s styling blooms, curating special events, or sharing the business's story online.

Lola: Team Morale Manager

Lola is our esteemed (and fluffy) Team Morale Manager, dedicated to ensuring every day is a good day. Though she contributes very little to actual floral design, her duties are critical: immediate disposal of dropped snacks, rigorous desk inspections, and mandatory cuddle breaks.

She specialises in the 'cute distraction' technique and is entirely responsible for all spontaneous outbreaks of play and tail-wagging. Her favourite part of the job? Greeting customers and delivery drivers. Her biggest weakness? Any arrangement featuring chicken.
